This opportunity is available as a fixedâterm role (external) or secondment (internal) through to 6 November 2026. Weâre looking for an experienced Operational Risk Manager to join our CBW business on a 5âmonth fixedâterm contract, where youâll operate squarely within Line 1 â embedded, handsâon, and close to the action. This role is ideal for a confident operational risk professional who enjoys being part of the business, taking ownership of risks, and working alongside leaders to strengthen controls, resolve issues, and lift risk maturity in a pragmatic and commercially minded way.
MĹ te TĹŤranga | About the Role
As an embedded Line 1 risk leader, youâll play a key role in building operational risk capability across CBW. Youâll work closely with frontline teams and senior leaders to embed operational risk frameworks into everyday business activity, supporting robust risk and control assessments and ensuring risk considerations are front of mind in decisionâmaking. Youâll take ownership of incident management activities, leading investigations, rootâcause analysis, reporting and remediation, and partnering with the business to ensure issues are resolved effectively and sustainably. A core part of the role involves overseeing control testing, monitoring key risk indicators, and ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of critical controls. As the business delivers change and transformation initiatives, youâll provide practical assurance and control design guidance, helping teams balance delivery with sound risk management. Youâll also advise on business continuity planning and regulatory compliance obligations, working collaboratively across the business and with the wider risk community. Throughout the contract, youâll contribute to adâhoc initiatives and continuous improvement activity, bringing a proactive mindset and a strong focus on strengthening Line 1 risk ownership and capability.
NÄ tĹu rourou | What youâll bring
- Around 3+ yearsâ experience in a risk discipline such as Operational Risk, Compliance or Audit
- A strong working knowledge of operational risk frameworks, controls and incident management
- Proven ability to engage with and influence stakeholders at different levels of the business
- Experience balancing multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate risk into clear insights
- Knowledge of the New Zealand and Australian regulatory environments (e.g. RBNZ, APRA)
- Experience using enterprise risk systems and registers (e.g. JUNO or similar)
