WestonBrook Associates are supporting a well-established and prominent independent accountancy practice based in Ashford that are now looking to hire an AAT qualified or ACA/ACCA early stage studying Semi-Senior Accountant to complement their team.
The firm works with a varied client base including SMEs, owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organisations, offering tailored, relationship-focused services within a supportive and forward-thinking environment. This role would suit a practice-based candidate who enjoys bookkeeping and VAT work, alongside assisting with year-end accounts and monthly reporting, and is confident managing a varied client portfolio within a collaborative team.
The Role
As a Semi-Senior, you will play a key role in supporting client finances, ensuring records are maintained accurately and deadlines are consistently met. You will work closely with senior staff while also developing strong relationships with clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Completing VAT returns accurately and ensuring all submissions comply with HMRC regulations and required timelines
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping for a range of clients, keeping financial data well organised and up to date using cloud accounting platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
- Providing support during month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing schedules and relevant financial information for senior team members
- Assisting clients with Making Tax Digital requirements, ensuring records are maintained digitally and submissions are completed as required
- Acting as a regular point of contact for clients, responding to queries and fostering strong professional relationships
- Supporting the preparation of financial statements across a diverse client base including limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
About You
- AAT qualified or currently studying towards either the ACA or ACCA qualification
- At least two years' experience gained ideally within a practice environment in a similar accounts assistant or semi-senior accountant role
- Able to handle a varied workload efficiently, particularly within a busy and deadline-driven setting
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce high-quality, accurate work
- Confident communicating with clients, demonstrating a professional and service-focused approach
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously, while also being a reliable and collaborative team member
- Proficient in the use of cloud based accounting software such as XERO, QuickBooks and Sage.
