A long‑established accountancy practice based in mid‑Essex is looking to appoint a confident and capable Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join its ever‑growing team. The firm is seeking a practice‑experienced individual who enjoys working with a varied client base and thrives in a busy, professional environment. About the Role
- Take responsibility for the bookkeeping needs of a portfolio of mainly SME clients spanning a range of industry sectors.
- Work with cloud‑based software to maintain accurate financial records and support the wider accounts team with management reporting and compliance tasks.
- Manage day‑to‑day bookkeeping tasks for the portfolio of clients.
- Process financial transactions and maintain organised ledgers.
- Support with monthly and quarterly management accounts as required.
- Prepare and file quarterly VAT returns with submissions to HMRC.
- Complete bank, sales, and purchase reconciliations.
- Update fixed asset schedules.
- Liaise with clients to request information and resolve queries with HMRC.
- Assist and train clients in the use of cloud‑based software such as XERO, Sage and Quickbooks.
- Support colleagues across the department to ensure deadlines are strictly adhered to.
About You
- At least 2+ years' experience in a UK‑based practice environment as a Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant.
- Solid practical exposure to handling a client portfolio spanning and delivering a comprehensive range of services including bookkeeping, VAT handling, and management accounts.
- Proficiency in cloud‑based software, ideally including XERO, Sage50 and Quickbooks.
- Proven experience communicating with clients over the phone and by email.
- Organised, methodical and diligent.
