Following expansion and restructuring, this independent local practice based in Norwich is seeking a practice experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join its busy team. The position offers variety, regular client interaction, and exposure to a range of modern accounting systems. About the Role

You will be responsible for the bookkeeping duties across a portfolio of predominantly SME clients operating in a variety of sectors. Working closely with the wider accounts team, you will help ensure accurate financial records are maintained and support ongoing reporting and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining day-to-day bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients (SME, Ltd. Co & Sole trader)
  • Posting and reviewing financial transactions to ensure accuracy
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements
  • Reconciling bank accounts, sales ledgers, and purchase ledgers
  • Communicating with clients to obtain information and addressing queries, including liaison with HMRC when needed
  • Supporting with audit activity - getting the opportunity to attend client sites
  • Supporting with statutory accounts preparation
  • Supporting and guiding clients in the use of cloud-based accounting platforms such as Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks

About You

  • A minimum of 1 years' experience working within a UK accountancy practice as a Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant
  • Studying towards AAT qualification - minimum of level 3 or AAT qualified
  • Experience of working with a client portfolio and delivering bookkeeping, VAT, and ideally management accounts support
  • Good working knowledge of cloud-based accounting software, ideally including Xero, Sage 50, and QuickBooks
  • Strong communication skills, with experience dealing with clients via phone and email
  • A well-organised, methodical, and conscientious approach to work
