A long-established accountancy practice based in mid-Essex is looking to appoint a confident and capable Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join its ever-growing team. The firm is seeking a practice-experienced individual who enjoys working with a varied client base and thrives in a busy, professional environment. This position offers a stable, well-rounded role with plenty of client interaction, exposure to different accounting systems, and the chance to contribute to a friendly, supportive team.
About the Role
The successful post holder will take responsibility for the bookkeeping needs of a portfolio of mainly SME clients spanning a range of industry sectors. You'll work with cloud-based software to maintain accurate financial records and support the wider accounts team with management reporting and compliance tasks. Typical duties will include:
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping tasks for the portfolio of clients
- Processing financial transactions and maintaining organised ledgers
- Supporting with monthly and quarterly management accounts as required
- Preparing and filing quarterly VAT returns with submissions to the HMRC
- Completing bank, sales, and purchase reconciliations
- Updating fixed asset schedules
- Liaising with clients to request information and resolve queries with the HMRC
- Assisting and training clients in the use of cloud-based software such as XERO, Sage, and Quickbooks
- Supporting colleagues across the department to ensure deadlines are strictly adhered to.
About You
- At least 2+ years’ experience gained working for a UK based practice environment in the capacity of either Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant
- Solid practical exposure of handling a client portfolio spanning and delivering a comprehensive range of services to include bookkeeping, VAT handling, and management accounts (would be ideal)
- Proficiency in a range of cloud-based software to ideally include XERO, Sage50, and Quickbooks
- Proven experience of communicating with clients both over the phone and in emails
- Organised, methodical and diligent
