Weston Brook Associates are delighted to be supporting a well-established independent accountancy practice based in Stanmore, Northwest London, in their search for an experienced Accounts, Audit & Tax Senior to join their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or qualified-by-experience practice professional looking for a varied role that combines accounts preparation, audit assignments and taxation work.

Working closely with the Directors, you will take responsibility for a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses, companies, charities and private individuals, while developing your technical expertise across all areas of general practice.

The Role

As an Accounts, Audit & Tax Senior, you will be responsible for managing a varied portfolio of clients and delivering a high standard of service across accounts, audit and tax.

You will act as a key point of contact with clients, building strong relationships and providing practical, commercially focused support.

  • Managing a portfolio of corporate and individual clients as their primary day-to-day contact.
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and charities.
  • Preparing accounts for rental property businesses and self-employed individuals.
  • Preparing and submitting Corporation Tax, Personal Tax and Capital Gains Tax returns.
  • Preparing and reviewing VAT returns and assisting clients with Making Tax Digital requirements.
  • Planning and undertaking audit assignments for a varied client base.
  • Managing audit engagements from the initial planning and risk assessment stage through to completion and final delivery.
  • Liaising directly with clients throughout audit assignments and resolving technical and accounting matters as they arise.
  • Identifying control weaknesses and preparing recommendations for clients where appropriate.
  • Liaising with HMRC regarding client queries, investigations and routine correspondence.
  • Advising clients on a range of tax matters, including corporate and personal tax planning opportunities.
  • Assisting with more complex tax matters, including areas such as R&D claims, ATED, Capital Gains Tax and remuneration planning.
  • Reviewing work in progress and monitoring chargeability across your portfolio.
  • Supervising and reviewing work completed by junior staff and outsourced accounting teams where required.

About You

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice.
  • Experience in a General Practice Accountant, Senior Accountant, Accounts Senior, Audit Senior or similar position.
  • Strong experience preparing statutory accounts for a wide range of clients.
  • Experience managing audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • Good working knowledge of both personal and corporate taxation.
  • Exposure to higher-level tax matters and the ability to identify planning opportunities for clients.
  • Experience preparing medium-sized company accounts, charity accounts and consolidated accounts.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to deal directly with clients and HMRC.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior or outsourced staff.
  • Proficiency with Sage, Xero and Quick Books would be advantageous.

Please note: This is a fully office-based position with no hybrid working.

Applicants should be within a reasonable commuting distance of Stanmore, ideally no more than 45 minutes each way.
