We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and caring learning support assistant with a ‘can-do’ attitude to join our friendly, supportive team as soon as possible.The position involves working on a 1:1 basis with a child currently in Year 5 who has additional needs. The child’s needs relate to:* Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia)* Working memory and phonological processing* Fine motor control and handwriting.The pupil has no behavioural needs and is an absolute delight to work with.The TA will be required to :* Plan and prepare resources and deliver specialist intervention (1:1) daily where required.* Support the young person to use strategies within the classroom setting to support literacy skills including reading decoding, comprehension and spelling.* Follow and deliver an OT recommended handwriting programme and support alternative means of recording where appropriate.* Provide support for independent writing and working memory challenges* Support numeracy skills where these are impacted by working memory.* Support executive functioning such as organisation, punctuality and planning.Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONThe successful candidate will have the following skills, experience and qualities:* Must hold a dyslexia qualification or have considerable demonstrable experience in working with young people with dyslexia* A caring and sympathetic person who will enjoy working with children across the prep school.* A committed, charismatic, reliable role model.* A sense of humour, adaptability and a love of being with children are paramount.* Pastoral care is a strong feature of life at Westonbirt Prep, and all staff are expected to contribute to this by creating a warm and caring environment for all.* A team player who is willing and keen to support their colleagues and to cover where reasonably asked to do so.* Good organisational and time-keeping skills are of key importance.HOURS, SALARY & BENEFITSHours: The role is 20.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 12.40pm (term-time only) working with a named child.
