Forestry England is looking for a Wildlife Ranger to join our forests team. The successful candidate will support forest protection, wildlife conservation and safe operational practices across the district.

What You'll Do

You will work as part of the district's wildlife management team, protecting forests and supporting conservation priorities, including mammal management. You will champion our health and safety culture by demonstrating the value of ‘look out and look after’.

Where you'll work

The role is based in the western part of the forest district, close to Pry Rigg Larder, YO62 5EL. Successful candidates are expected to live within a reasonable travel time to the site.

How to Apply

Applicants will write a 200‑word statement on relevant experience and a personal statement of no more than 500 words. The selection process includes:

  • Assessment of the written statements during sifting.
  • Interview behavioural assessment covering:
    • Delivering at pace
    • Making effective decisions
    • Seeing the bigger picture
    • Managing a quality service
    • Technical firearms skill test (DSC level 1 shooting test) and observation of responsible firearm handling.

Successful candidates will undergo a criminal record check and a government baseline personnel security standard check.

Nationality Requirements

Applicants must provide accurate spoken English as required under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.
