Weston-super-Mare Town Council is seeking a practical, community-minded and enthusiastic individual to join our Grounds Team as a Cemetery Conservation Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining high-quality public spaces and who values providing compassionate and professional support within a sensitive environment.

Working as part of the Town Council’s operational team, you will help maintain Milton Road Cemetery alongside a range of parks, play areas and community spaces across Weston-super-Mare.

About the Role

The successful candidate will undertake a varied and rewarding role including:

  • Supporting the maintenance, conservation and compliance of Milton Road Cemetery
  • Carrying out memorial safety inspections and operational maintenance works
  • Assisting visitors with information and guidance in a professional and sensitive manner
  • Undertaking grounds maintenance including mowing, strimming, litter collection and minor repairs
  • Supporting the inspection and maintenance of parks and play areas
  • Working alongside volunteers, contractors and community groups
  • Assisting with civic and community events throughout the year
  • Responding to incidents, emergencies and operational issues as required

The role involves regular outdoor working in all weather conditions and requires a flexible, hands-on approach.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, cemetery services or a similar operational environment
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Has good communication and customer service skills
  • Is committed to high standards of health and safety
  • Is reliable, adaptable and willing to undertake a wide range of practical duties
  • Can deal sensitively and professionally with members of the public
  • Holds a full UK driving licence (desirable if applicable)

Experience of memorial safety inspections, play area inspections or supervising volunteers/staff would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
