As the first point of contact for all clients, this volunteering role is a key contribution to the work of Weston Hospicecare. You will provide a welcoming face to all visitors and manage enquiries. The role requires an approachable, friendly individual who ensures confidentiality, respect and dignity while being an excellent communicator.

What you will be doing:

  • Taking incoming and outgoing telephone calls in a professional, calm and courteous manner; taking messages as appropriate.
  • Assisting with the running of the Hospice Reception Shop.
  • Answering calls promptly and clearly.
  • Contacting relevant department and advising them of visitor’s arrival.
  • Directing visitors to waiting area.
  • Being sensitive and appropriate to visitor’s needs maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Transferring calls correctly, putting callers for non-clinical areas through to voice mail, using paging system when appropriate.
  • When clinical teams are unavailable, transferring calls through to the Medical Secretary.
  • Obtaining a list of current patients and liaising with the In-Patient Unit about visitors for patients.
  • Handling the sale of items from Reception shop.
  • Keeping reception and waiting area clean and tidy.
  • Updating who is where in Diary as instructed.
