The Ward Receptionist is often the first person patients and visitors meet or speak to. The welcome, consideration, respect and guidance that the receptionist offers can help ease some of the anxiety and worry people can feel when coming into the Hospice, especially for the first time.

This role is integral to the smooth operation of the In-Patient Unit and your duties would include answering the phone, welcoming and directing visitors, alerting nursing staff upon their arrival, taking messages and redirecting calls, greeting visitors in a calm manner and arranging refreshments if requested.

To volunteer as part of the In-patient Unit Team, providing administration and general support for the nursing staff and providing assistance and support to patients and relatives where necessary.

What you will be doing

  • Work according to the policies and procedures of Weston Hospicecare and to maintain confidentiality, adhering to Information Governance and GDPR
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of patients, their relatives and friends
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times of all details appertaining to patients, their relatives, and staff
  • Answering telephone
  • Meeting & greeting visitors and show them to the appropriate rooms
  • Support distressed and bereaved relatives in conjunction with trained staff
  • Assist in the safe handling of patient’s property and valuables in conjunction with nursing staff
  • To have an understanding of and work according to the routine for Volunteer Ward Receptionists
  • To maintain effective communication with internal and external departments, patients and relatives
  • Assist in the training and induction of new Volunteer Ward Receptionists
