As the Head of SEND you will play a vital role in effectively leading and developing a team of specialist support staff to provide consistent, high-quality holistic support for students who have an Education, Health Care Plan (EHCP) and/or additional learning needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Learning Support team across remits to ensure effective allocation and delivery of all aspects of learning support, including personal care, medical care and therapeutic interventions.
- Ensure that all statutory and regulatory responsibilities related to SEND and high needs provision are met and fully reflected within college policies and processes.
- Lead on the development of new policies and processes to meet changing requirements as needed.
- Lead on external partnership work with Local Authorities, feeder schools and other professionals to oversee a robust transition programme for students (both in and out of college).
- Efficiently manage and maintain accurate departmental budgets and lead the process of high needs claims, overseeing timely recording of all evidence of resources allocated to students in receipt of element 2 and 3 funding.
Qualifications
- Teaching qualification, at a minimum of Level 4.
- Leadership qualification, at a minimum of Level 3 (or be working towards).
- Significant and successful experience of learning support and SEND teaching in Further Education, with proven success of driving successful improvement in student outcomes.
- Experience of interpreting and using the SEND Code of Practice to effectively negotiate and agree high needs placements in a post-16 setting.
