This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week, based at our Health and Active Living Skills Centre. The Specialist Technician - Health Simulation will work closely with academic staff to support the delivery of clinical skills and simulation-based learning through the effective preparation, operation and maintenance of specialist simulation environments and equipment.
Job responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of simulation and clinical skills rooms.
- Prepare simulation environments in advance of teaching sessions, ensuring all equipment, manikins, consumables and resources are set up in line with session requirements.
- Ensure all simulation facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, organised and ready-to-use condition at all times.
- Provide technical support during simulation sessions, including the operation of simulation equipment and associated technologies.
- Support academic staff with the technical delivery of simulation activities, including assisting with briefings and debriefings where required.
- Reset simulation environments between sessions, ensuring rooms are prepared for subsequent teaching.
- Conduct routine checks of simulation equipment and ensure all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Identify faults and arrange repairs or maintenance, undertaking minor repairs where appropriate and authorised.
- Maintain stock levels of consumables and ensure simulation equipment and resources are appropriately stored and accessible.
- Undertake regular stock checks and maintain accurate inventory records of simulation equipment and consumables.
- Raise requisitions for the purchase of consumables and equipment and liaise with suppliers and internal departments as required.
- Support the planning and coordination of simulation sessions by ensuring technical readiness and availability of required equipment.
- Provide technical guidance to staff and students in the safe and effective use of simulation equipment and facilities.
- Ensure all simulation environments comply with health and safety requirements and support the implementation of safe working practices.
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement of simulation environments through maintaining industry-standard operational practices.
Apprenticeship Requirements
- Enrol on and complete a relevant apprenticeship aligned to the role.
- Participate in off-the-job training and development activities as required.
- Build and maintain an apprenticeship portfolio demonstrating skills, knowledge and behaviours developed in the role.
- Apply learning from the apprenticeship to enhance technical practice and operational delivery within the simulation environment.

Qualifications
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 / C or above (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
- All applicants must be able to provide evidence of a Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics, or be willing to undertake the Qualification whilst in post.
- Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g. Health, Science, Technical).
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant Health or Social Care specialism.
