As one of the fastest-growing Colleges in the UK, delivering courses from entry level right up to Masters degrees, Weston College is an inspiring place to work. The person appointed will join a team of people working within the faculty to develop and deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment. Programmes are designed to meet the needs of individual learners, they are highly personalised and engage students with SEND and barriers to learning.

The person appointed will be responsible for delivering a range of subjects including (but not limited to) vocational options, personal and social development, independent living, employability and Functional Skills in either maths and/or English. This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week. Interviews for this role will take place on-site, at one of your college campuses in Weston-super-Mare. As a SEND Lecturer, you may be based at any of our Weston-super-Mare Campuses.

  • Plan and deliver a full timetable of high-quality and innovative teaching, learning and assessment on a range of Entry Level and Level 1 programmes.
  • Tutor a defined caseload of learners, coordinating their individualised programme of study to ensure high attendance and retention as well as positive progression and outcomes.
  • Plan and review individual study programmes, ensuring all aspects of provision and support specified within a student's Education Health and Care Plan is in place and the progress is effectively tracked and monitored.
  • Implement and evidence the achievement of students against the RAPPRA framework for all non-accredited learning.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Teaching Qualification. If you do not possess a recognised Teaching Qualification, you will be required to gain this qualification within your first three years of service (with the assistance of the College).
  • Degree-level or professional qualification, which is appropriate to the work.
  • Relevant and successful teaching experience with learners who have a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies in relation to students with complex barriers to learning including emotional and behavioural difficulties and/or SEND.
