Job title: School Administrator and Clerk to Governors

Reports to (job title): Head teacher

Hours of work: 25 hours per week over 40 weeks. There may be some out of hours to attend governor meetings. Office hours: 8:00 – 16:30. Exact working days and hours to be agreed but must include Monday and Wednesday working 8:00 until 16:30 and Friday working 8:30 until 2pm with the remainder of work hours to be agreed.

Salary: BS5 £26,847 (FTE) to BS6 £27,709 (FTE) per annum , pro rata – depending on experience

Could you be the friendly and organised face of our school?
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly organised and approachable Primary School Administrator and Clerk to Governors to join our school team.
This is an important and varied role which combines front-of-house school administration with clerking responsibilities for our governing body.
As the first point of contact for many of our families and visitors, you will play a key role in creating a warm, welcoming and professional environment. You will need to be confident dealing with a wide range of people, able to remain calm when things are busy and have excellent organisational and communication skills.
Alongside your reception and administrative responsibilities, you will provide effective clerking support to our governing body. This will include organising meetings, preparing agendas and paperwork, attending meetings and producing accurate, clear minutes.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is warm, friendly and approachable, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Is organised, reliable and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Is confident using IT and administrative systems.
  • Has a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Can communicate sensitively and professionally with children, parents, carers, staff, governors and visitors.
  • Is able to work independently and use their initiative.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ideally has experience of working in a school or similar setting and/or experience of clerking formal meetings.

Previous experience as a clerk to governors is desirable but not essential. We would welcome applications from candidates with strong administrative skills who are keen to develop their knowledge and experience of school governance.

The School

St Martin and St Mary Church of England Primary School caters for children aged between 2 and 11 years old. The school provides education based on the practices and principles of the Church of England Trust Deed. Our school opened on 1st September 2013 and is an amalgamation between St Mary’s Church of England Nursery and Infant School with Windermere Church of England Junior School.
