About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit an Accounting Technician to join our SEND and Inclusion Finance Team within the Finance Business Partnering Service. The team plays a key role in supporting the internal SEND and Inclusion Team within the Education Service by providing high-quality technical, operational and strategic financial advice. This enables accurate monitoring and reporting across the Education, SEND and Inclusion service, allowing the service to make informed decisions and deliver a high quality of service for our children and young people.
As an Accounting Technician, you will support Principal Finance Officers and Finance Manager in delivering a professional, flexible financial service that supports the effective management of the Council's budget and aligns with the Council Plan. The role will also ensure all expenditure is aligned to any grant conditions where applicable.
Key responsibilities
- Provide financial management information to support budget setting, budget monitoring and the closure of accounts
- Maintain the general ledger, including posting journals and virements, in line with Financial Regulations and schemes of delegation
- Support the Principal Finance Officer to produce financial reports and information to support decision-making by the local authority
- Support the development and use of IT solutions to improve and standardise financial management processes
- Work flexibly within the Children and Family Wellbeing Finance Team, supporting different elements of the service as required
About you
You will have a strong understanding of financial management and accounting processes, with good attention to detail and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues. You will be adaptable, collaborative and committed to providing high-quality financial support across the organisation. An accounting qualification (such as AAT or equivalent) or relevant experience and experience of working with financial systems, budgets and ledger maintenance are essential.
