About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit an Accounting Technician to join our Schools Finance team within the Finance Service. The team supports maintained schools by providing high‑quality technical, operational and strategic financial advice, helping schools manage budgets, make decisions and deliver high quality education. As an Accounting Technician you will support Principal Accountants and Accountants in delivering a professional, flexible financial service that supports the effective management of a maintained school’s budget and ensures all spend is aligned to grant conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Provide financial management information to support budget setting, budget monitoring and the closure of accounts.
- Maintain the general ledger, including posting journals and virements, in line with Financial Regulations and schemes of delegation.
- Support schools to manage their budgets effectively.
- Produce financial reports and information to support decision‑making by the local authority, school leadership teams and governing bodies.
- Support the development and use of IT solutions to improve and standardise financial management processes.
- Work flexibly within the Children and Family Wellbeing Finance Team, supporting different elements of the service as required.
About you
You will have a strong understanding of financial management and accounting processes, good attention to detail and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑finance colleagues. You are adaptable, collaborative and committed to providing high‑quality financial support across the organisation.
Qualifications and experience
- An accounting qualification (such as AAT or equivalent) or sufficient relevant experience.
- Experience of working with financial systems, budgets and ledger maintenance.
