We are currently seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Bridges and Structures team based in Kendal or Penrith. You will be a key member of our team responsible for the inspection, assessment, maintenance and improvement of some1800 structures including many historic highway bridges, culverts, retaining walls, sea walls and cattle grids.

You will be the key responsible engineer for this area and will also provide technical advice and guidance to our team of bridge engineers and inspectors, charged with the stewardship of highway structures, including an impressive stock of historic masonry arch bridges, retaining walls and sea defences. You will also be responsible for the development of repair and strengthening schemes, generally being designed by consultants on our Professional Services Framework, but where appropriate being designed by the post holder. This role will require you to work closely with our in-house Operations Teams as well as contractors on our Construction Services Framework for the delivery of works. You will also be responsible for the delivery, monitoring and reporting on progress of projects as well as contributing to the development of future work programmes and medium and longer term strategic plans.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and likeable, they will be able to develop good working relationships with colleagues, consenting authorities and our supply chain, and be proactive to ensure the delivery of programmes of work. They will have experience of the maintenance, repair and strengthening of bridge and structures, including design, specification and procurement to national standards. They will also have knowledge of the application of technical standards, specifications, systems, guidelines, regulations, policies and legislation relating to the relevant work areas.
