A large proportion of children and young people in residential care within Westmorland and Furness are often living in homes out of the local authority area or not close to their homes. As part of an ambitious children’s home programme, we are addressing this trend and creating more local homes to enable children and young people to stay close to their family, friends and the wider support they require.

This post is a crucial leadership role within the exciting new Westmorland and Furness children’s home service area. Leading your team to support vulnerable young people and their families to manage difficulties they may be experiencing around issues of attachment, trauma, social exclusion, and emotional health and wellbeing. The service aims to provide local high-quality care, support and advice for young people who are looked after or at risk of becoming looked after and their families.

The service will also offer outreach and short-term residential placements, to children at risk, using a fully inclusive, therapeutic approach to reunite and build on families existing strengths and resilience, and offering support, post reunification to maintain the family’s ability to look after children safely and compassionately.

Who we are looking for…

An individual with an expert knowledge and experience in the field of children’s residential care, with a Diploma level 5 qualification children and young people’s manager (residential) or social work degree or equivalent with an expectation to complete in line with quality standards.
