About this opportunity
After the retirement of one of our Internal Audit team, we are looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Council’s Internal Audit team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in audit, risk management and governance and a willingness to work towards the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) qualification. You will work as part of the in-house Internal Audit team, to support it in delivering the annual audit plan for the Council and Cumbria Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
Internal Audit is part of the Finance Service within the Resources Directorate. The purpose of internal audit is to provide independent assurance to the Council over the adequacy and effectiveness of its governance, risk management and internal control arrangements.
Who we are looking for…
The successful candidate will understand the services provided by Westmorland and Furness Council and have experience of working in audit within local government or similar complex public sector organisations. Have the ability to establish good working relationships with the rest of the audit team and those services being audited. The Senior Auditor will need to be objective, impartial, have high standards of integrity, with an ability to analyse and understand information.
The Senior Auditor will be expected to use their skills, knowledge, and experience to undertake audit assignments across the Council’s services and prepare clear and concise audit reports.
The Senior Auditor will need to work to achievable budgets and deadlines and be able to work on several audit assignments at the same time across a range of directorates and managed by different Audit Managers.
