This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Licensing Team within Westmorland and Furness Council as a Regulation and Compliance Assistant, based at Voreda House, Penrith. In this role, you will work alongside Regulation and Compliance Officers and other Business Support Officers to protect public safety through our licensing service. This role requires taking responsibility for resolving issues efficiently and effectively on a wide range of technical, statutory and non-statutory activities which helps the team ensure that licences are determined and issued in a timely manner.
Your role will primarily involve administration and will include the processing of applications for various licensing functions including but not limited to alcohol and entertainment premises, gambling, taxis and private hire and charitable collections. The service focuses on promotion of licensing objectives, consultation, investigation, multi-partnership working, prevention, education and where required enforcement. You’ll be joining a dedicated team who handle a high volume of work, and you will act as the single point of contact throughout the applicants' journey managing and resolving issues as they arise. Many of the applications we receive are time critical and you will be expected to manage your workload and prioritise accordingly.

Who we are looking for…
- Working in a professional manner to respond and seek resolution to requests for services from external and internal customers using technical knowledge, business rules, statutory guidance, systems and processes and following workflows in place.
- Attention to detail, accuracy and excellent customer focus to deliver high standards of service and seek to resolve cases as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- Extensive and demonstrable experience in working in a customer focused, service delivery role.
- Proven ability to understand and comply with legislation and regulations in day-to-day business.
- Solid understanding of case management approach and experience of dealing with more complex cases and providing multi-disciplinary support.
- Proven ability to analyse, problem-solve and respond to requests and understanding when to escape a case.
- Proven ability to be accurate, detailed and professional in approach to work.
- Proven ability to deliver high standards and good customer service.
- Strong ICT skills and proven ability to learn new systems quickly.
Qualifications:
- Good standard of education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent experience.
