Join our dedicated team within Children’s Services at Westmorland and Furness Council and make a real difference every day. As a Passenger Assistant, you will support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and vulnerable adults on their journeys to school, college, or training.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety and welfare of passengers from pick‑up to drop‑off.
- Assist with boarding and alighting.
- Support the driver when needed.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, drivers and schools.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Follow risk assessments to keep everyone safe.
Qualifications
- Caring, confident individuals who remain calm in challenging situations.
- Able to think on their feet and be active and supportive throughout the journey.
- Good record‑keeping skills desirable.
- Capability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake safeguarding and health & safety training (provided).
- Experience working with children or vulnerable adults desirable but not essential.
Schedule
- Term‑time only, Monday to Friday.
- Split shifts: approximately 07:30‑09:30 and 14:30‑16:30.
- Flexible options may be available, including mornings or afternoons (job‑share basis).
- Opportunities for additional work outside term time on adult transport.
