If so, you might be interested in applying for the role of Information Governance and Disclosure Officer in Legal and Democratic Services.

The purpose of this post is to support the effective management, handling and learning from statutory requests for personal data received under UK General Data Protection Regulation (UKGDPR) Article 15 and Data Protection Act 2018 Schedule 2.

You will be part of a small, forward-thinking team that values innovation and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that make a real difference to the way our customers access and request their personal data. You will have a role in supporting the delivery of the council’s Information Governance Framework.

This role is agile combining home working with office-based working at any of the council’s offices:

  • South Lakeland House, Kendal
  • Voreda House, Penrith
  • Craven House, Barrow
  • There is also the facility to work from Parkhouse, Carlisle but this will be as a workbase not a contractual location

Who we are looking for…

We are specifically looking for applicants who have experience in:

  • local authority services including Adult and Children’s Social Care, Revenues and Benefits, Human Resources, Enforcement and Licensing
  • handling complex requests for personal data from individuals and organisations
  • providing advice/guidance to customers and colleagues
  • applying best practice to the development of case management systems
  • designing training/communication programmes

You must have the ability to explain complex legal concepts to a variety of audiences, using appropriate communication channels and techniques, and have experience of problem solving and innovative thinking.

You will be self-motivated, adaptable, flexible and able to manage your time effectively. The ability to work in a pressurised environment, manging complex priorities and responding to competing deadlines is essential.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a large local authority and/or knowledge of local authority governance. A commitment to delivering the best possible service for the benefit of our residents and clients, is required. You must have good IT literacy skills and an ability to use electronic resources for the purpose of research is critical. You must be able to drive and travel independently between remote locations.

Other duties will include dealing with a range of matters including providing advice to officers and elected members, advising on legal implications in Committee, Council and Cabinet reports, attending Council Committees and working groups as required.
