Westmorland and Furness Council is a unitary Council combining Barrow-in-Furness, Eden and South Lakeland districts which was created on 1st April 2023. The Council is an ambitious authority, committed to putting our customers and communities first, and they are at the heart of everything we do.
This post is an opportunity to join our friendly, welcoming and supportive Banking and Control Team. The team is part of the Council’s Financial Services Team which includes Accounts Payable/Receivable, Income Management, Banking, Control Accounts and VAT.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with drive and commitment to support the Council’s move towards its objective of becoming financially sustainable. They will be working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities so will need to be adaptable.
The main purpose of the role will be to support the Banking and Control team with maintaining accounting records to a high standard within required deadlines. This will include working in the areas of bank reconciliations, control account reconciliations and VAT.
Responsibilities will include:
- Handling and processing incoming mail
- Ensuring accurate and timely filing of bank communications
- Following up queries with the Income Team and the Purchase to Pay Team
- Entering journal corrections
- Providing general administrative and operational support to the wider team as needed
