The Role
As Health & Safety Manager, you’ll play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring legal compliance, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance. You’ll provide strategic and operational leadership across a varied working environment from engineering and manufacturing to on‑site construction and installation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Health & Safety Management System in line with UK legislation and ISO standards.
- Oversee risk assessments, safe systems of work, and permit‑to‑work procedures.
- Lead audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring robust follow‑up and reporting.
- Deliver training, toolbox talks, and inductions to enhance safety awareness.
- Drive engagement in safety initiatives and champion continuous improvement.
- Support environmental management practices aligned with sustainability and net‑zero goals.
- Advise leadership teams on H&S best practices and regulatory compliance.
- Work collaboratively with managers, supervisors, and external contractors to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
About You
A hands‑on, collaborative professional with strong technical knowledge and the ability to influence and engage at all levels of the business.
Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) or equivalent; Diploma preferred.
- At least 5 years experience in a Health & Safety role within engineering, manufacturing, or construction.
- Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with safety management systems (SMS), risk assessments, and incident reporting tools.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Chartered or working towards CMIOSH.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience in contractor management, environmental safety, and wellbeing programmes.
- Leadership or management training certification.
