Westminster School is seeking an outstanding and experienced teacher to lead its highly successful Science Department from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic and inspirational leadership at a pivotal moment in the School’s history as it moves towards full co-education in 2028.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring excellence in teaching, learning and academic achievement across all science subjects, while promoting STEM beyond the classroom and Westminster with our partnership and outreach work. They will maintain the School’s exceptionally high academic standards while continuing to refine curriculum design and pedagogy in line with our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

The Head of Science will be responsible for the science provision across the School, working with the Heads of Department across Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Physics and Product Design to coordinate policy and ensure high standards of teaching and learning in these subjects. They will also support teachers delivering Astronomy, Earth Sciences and the EPQ and will oversee the work of the department’s technicians.

Candidates should have substantial experience of teaching a science subject through to KS5, proven line-management experience and a strong working knowledge of CLEAPSS guidance, including health and safety monitoring and risk assessment procedures. Excellent organisational, administrative and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside a genuine commitment to promoting science within Westminster and the wider educational community. The role demands a strategic thinker who can shape pedagogy, engage with educational research and respond creatively to curriculum developments as the School moves to full co-education.

The Science Department comprises 36 staff, including 26 full-time teachers, three part-time teachers and seven technicians. STEM subjects are extremely popular and examination results are consistently outstanding. A vibrant co-curricular programme enhances classroom learning through clubs and societies, the pupil-led Robert Hooke magazine, visiting speakers, trips to scientific institutions and universities, Olympiads and Science Challenges, and competitions such as Robotics and Safe-Cracking.
