Responsibilities
- Setting the School's Strategic Direction – help define long‑term vision and values, and contribute to decisions that drive improvement and growth.
- Supporting and Challenging Leadership – work alongside the headteacher to ensure high standards of education and effective staff performance.
- Overseeing Financial Decisions – ensure resources are used wisely and efficiently to benefit every pupil, bringing business acumen and commercial insight.
Commitment
Governors attend around four full governing board meetings and three committee meetings per year. You will also spend time in school during the year, meeting staff and pupils and seeing the impact of your work first‑hand.

This is a voluntary role. Full training and support are provided and no prior experience in education is required.
About The Westminster School
The Westminster School is a special school for 302 pupils aged 7‑19 with a range of special educational needs. It is a safe, happy, and inspiring place where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. The school offers an innovative child‑centred curriculum focused around six holistic areas: My Communication, My Community, My Care and Independence, My Creativity, My Thinking, and My Wellbeing. The school recently moved to its purpose‑built site in February 2011. Most ground floor classrooms have access to outside spaces, incorporating Learning Outside the Classroom into our enriched curriculum. Our values are encapsulated in our statement of Safe, Happy and Learning Together, aiming to develop confident, aspirational and independent members of our community.
