This role will provide the postholder with structured training and hands-on experience across a wide range of tasks, offering the chance to develop key library skills and gain a strong understanding of how a school library operates. It is designed to support those looking to pursue a recognised postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science or a related field.

The successful candidate will help maintain a calm, comfortable and welcoming environment that supports both study and reading for pleasure. They will assist the Librarians with the day-to-day running of the service, including, but not limited to, the circulation and organisation of resources, issuing materials, processing new stock, maintaining well-ordered shelves, and creating engaging content both on site and via social media.

Strong interpersonal, IT and behaviour-management skills are essential as the post holder will take primary responsibility for the Issue Desk at the start of each day, answering enquiries, registering classes, supervising pupils as needed and helping to ensure a focused and orderly environment. Prior experience working in a library is not essential and the Trainee Librarian will receive ongoing training and support from qualified librarians to build their library knowledge and learn new skills.

This is a full-time, term-time role with some Saturday working. It is fixed-term until July 2028.
