The Role:
As a Statutory Compliance Officer, you can make a powerful contribution. Join us to keep Westminster’s landmark buildings safe and thriving by ensuring high-impact compliance, coordinating essential safety checks, and making a real difference to our community every day.
As part of a team, you’ll work to ensure that all buildings within the operational portfolio are compliant with legal obligations. You’ll ensure that risk assessments and safety checks are complete for fire, water, gas, electrics, lifts, and asbestos. You will support the Technical Assurance Lead to deliver Monthly Statutory Compliance KPIs and prepare performance reports.
In this role, you will liaise with contractors to verify works and update WCC’s records. You’ll also work with Westminster Facilities Managers and Projects leads to address any compliance issues at Westminster sites. You will sometimes meet with different teams on site to provide support and compliance advice.
Keeping on top of data will be key. You’ll input data into corporate IT systems including Civica Property Management, checking that evidence is stored and certificates are up to date.
You’ll be joining a small team with backgrounds in housing, facilities management, and the private sector. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in data management, reporting, managing contractors and project management. You’ll also get to work on some historic buildings, which is a joy of the job. Ultimately, we enjoy knowing that our work keeps our community resources available and safer for residents.
About You:
You’ll bring experience in managing statutory compliance for all legal building-safety requirements: fire safety, water safety, gas safety, electrical safety, asbestos management, lifting-equipment safety regulations, and planned preventive maintenance. You’ll have managed risk assessments in the same areas. Following this, you will have managed the necessary remedial works to completion.
Data experience is key. You’ve analysed and managed information and data, used IT systems for monitoring and reporting. Plus, you’ve prepared reports on performance. This is matched with superb communication skills across writing, speaking, and presenting.
Excellent stakeholder management skills are important. You’ve worked with contractors on compliance, including on-site visits. You’ve assisted inspections, compliance checks, and audits of buildings. You’ve worked with clients before to help address any building safety related concerns and to schedule required works.
You’re comfortable working independently and managing your own workload - for example conducting desktop audits and writing reports to meet deadlines. You’re also comfortable working as part of a team, communicating well with others and supporting other teams’ projects.
It is strongly preferred that you have a NEBOSH General Certificate.
Westminster City Council is committed to supporting Care Leavers into the workplace. Care Leavers seeking their first job and who wish to be considered under our scheme, will automatically be invited to interview should they meet the essential criteria for the role.
