Westland Horticulture is looking for a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Officer to play a key role in maintaining and developing a strong safety culture at our Ellesmere Port manufacturing site. This is a highly visible, site-based role where you’ll work alongside the Senior Management Team to ensure safe working practices, legal compliance, and continuous improvement across the factory. The Role
- Supporting, developing, and embedding Health & Safety standards across the site, ensuring policies, procedures, and working practices are not only compliant, but actively lived day-to-day.
- Leading site Health & Safety compliance in line with UK legislation.
- Reviewing and improving H&S policies, procedures, and risk controls.
- Maintaining a live Risk Register and driving action plans.
- Carrying out regular site inspections, audits, and GMP checks.
- Investigating accidents and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Delivering H&S inductions for new starters.
- Supporting training plans and maintaining site training matrices.
- Managing COSHH controls and safe handling of hazardous substances.
- Coordinating fire safety processes, drills, and emergency procedures.
- Supporting ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) and audit readiness.
- Promoting a strong “clean as we go” and safety-first culture.
- Liaising with regulatory bodies and supporting the Group H&S Manager.
This role is heavily factory-floor focused and requires strong engagement with production teams, supervisors, and managers. We’re seeking someone with a practical, people-focused approach to safety who can build strong working relationships across the site.
You’ll ideally have:
- 3 - 4 years’ experience in a Health & Safety or Junior Safety Officer role.
- Experience within a manufacturing or factory environment.
- Understanding of implementing H&S policies in line with legislation.
- IOSH qualification (essential).
- NEBOSH (essential).
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Good IT skills (MS Office).
- A hands-on style and visibility on the shop floor.
- Full UK driving licence (occasional UK travel may be required).
