Westlakes Recruit is supporting the growth of one of the UK's leading Tier 1 engineering and construction organisations and is looking to appoint an experienced Project Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary engineering delivery across major nuclear infrastructure projects at Sellafield.
This is a strategic leadership position responsible for managing engineering teams throughout the full project lifecycle, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and safe, efficient project delivery within one of the UK's most highly regulated environments.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Projects, you will lead the engineering function across complex infrastructure projects, providing technical leadership, governance and assurance from bid stage through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
You'll work closely with clients, construction teams, designers and supply chain partners to ensure engineering solutions are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme, budget and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across major infrastructure projects.
- Provide engineering assurance throughout design, construction, commissioning and project handover.
- Act as the engineering lead for project delivery, ensuring compliance with client procedures, statutory requirements and industry standards.
- Undertake the duties of the CDM Principal Designer and champion Safe by Design principles.
- Manage Design Managers, Responsible Engineers and technical specialists across multiple projects.
- Support project bids, feasibility studies, value engineering and option selection.
- Drive engineering innovation, modern construction techniques and digital delivery.
- Develop engineering procedures and ensure alignment with client standards and governance.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, regulators and supply chain partners.
- Support recruitment, mentoring and professional development of engineering teams.
- Promote continuous improvement, technical excellence and collaborative working across the business.
About You
You'll be an experienced engineering leader who enjoys managing multidisciplinary teams while maintaining high technical standards across complex engineering programmes.
You'll ideally have
- Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or equivalent professional registration (or working towards Chartered status).
- Significant experience leading engineering delivery within major infrastructure, nuclear or regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of construction, engineering management and design assurance.
- Experience working for Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors on complex infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer responsibilities. Experience working within NEC contracts and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to develop engineering teams whilst promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
Desirable Experience
- Sellafield project experience.
- Understanding of Sellafield engineering governance and gated project processes.
- Knowledge of nuclear site licence conditions.
- SMSTS qualification.
- Experience supporting major bids and work-winning activities.
