We are currently seeking an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator / Chief Engineer to join a major infrastructure project based in Cumbria. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role on a long-term infrastructure programme, supporting the safe planning, coordination, and delivery of complex temporary works packages across multiple phases of construction. The successful candidate will work closely with project delivery, engineering, design, and subcontractor teams to ensure all temporary works activities are effectively managed in line with project requirements, safety standards, and regulatory expectations.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will take ownership of the coordination and management of temporary works across a variety of civils and infrastructure activities, including:
- Site establishment and enabling works
- Bulk earthworks
- Road and pavement construction
- Storm and foul drainage
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Large and small-scale temporary support solutions
You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from pre-construction planning through to construction delivery and completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage all temporary works activities across the project
- Maintain and manage the Temporary Works Register
- Act as the key interface between designers, site teams, and subcontractors
- Ensure design briefs are accurate, compliant, and aligned with site requirements
- Review and approve temporary works designs and associated checks
- Monitor erection, inspection, loading, and dismantling of temporary works
- Issue permits to load and permits to dismantle where required
- Ensure robust change control procedures are implemented and followed
- Carry out audits, inspections, and surveillance of installed temporary works
- Ensure all temporary works comply with health, safety, and quality standards
- Support collaboration across engineering, construction, and subcontract teams
- Maintain detailed documentation and records throughout delivery
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Current TWC CITB Certification (or equivalent)
- Valid CSCS Card
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline
- Demonstrable experience in temporary works coordination/design management on major infrastructure or construction projects
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent organisational and planning capability
- SMSTS qualification
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Previous experience within highly regulated environments
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or major projects
- Familiarity with quality assurance standards and construction compliance procedures
- Understanding of short-term planning and work package delivery processes
- Knowledge of site safety procedures and temporary works best practice
