Westlakes Recruit are currently supporting a leading civil engineering contractor in the search for an experienced Site Engineer to join their team on major infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineering professional who enjoys being hands-on, solving technical challenges and playing a key role in the successful delivery of complex civil engineering works.

The Role

As Site Engineer, you will support the delivery of projects by providing accurate setting out, technical support, quality assurance and engineering expertise on site. Working closely with Senior Engineers, Site Managers and construction teams, you will help ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting Out & Technical Delivery
    • Carry out accurate setting out using a variety of surveying equipment.
    • Verify levels, dimensions and tolerances to ensure works are completed in accordance with design requirements.
    • Support the resolution of technical queries and Requests for Information (RFIs).
    • Review engineering drawings and specifications, identifying potential issues and buildability concerns at an early stage.
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with project standards, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Site Operations Support
    • Work closely with Site Managers and Supervisors to plan and coordinate construction activities.
    • Provide clear engineering information to site teams through sketches, mark-ups and technical briefings.
    • Monitor site progress and contribute to short-term planning activities.
    • Support safe systems of work and promote a positive safety culture across the project.
  • Information & Quality Management
    • Maintain accurate as-built records and engineering documentation.
    • Assist in the preparation and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
    • Undertake quality inspections and verification checks.
    • Identify non-conformances and support the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Materials & Temporary Works
    • Carry out material inspections and ensure testing and sampling requirements are met.
    • Support material take-offs and scheduling of key construction materials.
    • Assist with temporary works inspections and the implementation of temporary works procedures.
    • Support the coordination of temporary works activities on site.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Graduate and Apprentice Engineers.
    • Work collaboratively with subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.
    • Build strong working relationships to ensure effective communication and project delivery.

About You

Applicants should possess:

  • HNC, HND or Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of four years' experience delivering major civil engineering projects.
  • Experience within infrastructure, highways, rail, utilities or related sectors.
  • Strong setting out and surveying capability.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, BricsCAD or similar engineering software.
  • Experience in inspection, testing and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications and construction methods.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to project delivery.
