About the Opportunity

Westlakes Recruit is currently supporting a leading construction and infrastructure organisation with the appointment of an experienced Site Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable Site Engineer to join a high-performing delivery team working on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of construction works, working closely with Senior Engineers, Site Managers, Supervisors, subcontractors and the wider project team.

You will be involved across setting out, technical delivery, quality, temporary works, materials and short-term planning, with opportunities to develop your technical and leadership capability.

What You Will Do

Setting Out & Technical Delivery

  • Carry out accurate setting out using a range of surveying equipment.
  • Check levels, dimensions and tolerances to ensure works are delivered accurately.
  • Support Senior Engineers in resolving technical queries and RFIs.
  • Review drawings and specifications, identifying potential issues at an early stage.
  • Help ensure construction activities are buildable, compliant and delivered to the required standards.

Site Operations

  • Work closely with Site Managers and Supervisors to plan and sequence construction activities.
  • Provide clear technical information to site teams, including sketches, drawings and mark-ups.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to short-term planning and delivery.
  • Support the coordination of construction activities across the site.

Information & Quality Management

  • Maintain accurate as-built records and support digital project deliverables.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of Inspection & Test Plans.
  • Carry out quality inspections and checks on site.
  • Identify issues and support the investigation and resolution of non-conformances.
  • Ensure construction information is accurately recorded and communicated.

Materials & Temporary Works

  • Carry out material checks and ensure appropriate testing and sampling procedures are followed.
  • Assist with material take-offs and scheduling for key construction materials, including drainage, reinforcement and waterbars.
  • Complete temporary works inspections.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of straightforward temporary works designs and solutions.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Apprentice and Graduate Engineers.
  • Work closely with subcontractors and suppliers to support safe and efficient delivery.
  • Develop strong working relationships with site teams, project stakeholders and supply chain partners.
  • Promote effective communication and ensure technical information is clearly understood across the project.

What You Will Bring

The successful candidate will have:

  • 4+ years' experience working on major civil engineering projects.
  • Experience across infrastructure, rail, highways, utilities or similar environments.
  • An HNC or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong civil engineering knowledge and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Confident surveying and setting-out skills.
  • Experience with digital engineering tools, including AutoCAD or BricsCAD.
  • Experience with construction inspections, testing and quality assurance.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary site teams.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical and delivery issues.
