We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major long-term civil infrastructure framework within the nuclear decommissioning sector. This is a key commercial position supporting the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and construction works within a highly regulated environment. The role will suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong civil engineering background and demonstrable experience managing commercial activities across large-scale infrastructure or heavy civils projects.

Working as part of an established commercial and project delivery team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring robust commercial management, subcontract administration, cost control, and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial management of significant work packages associated with major civils and infrastructure delivery. This will include supporting both pre-construction and construction phases across a broad range of activities such as:

  • Earthworks and enabling works
  • Reinforced concrete structures
  • Highways and pavement construction
  • Drainage and utilities infrastructure
  • Structural and civil engineering packages
  • Temporary and permanent works associated with major construction delivery

The role requires strong commercial awareness, a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, and the ability to operate effectively within a highly regulated project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively contribute to the commercial success and profitability of the project and wider framework
  • Manage the full commercial lifecycle of allocated work packages from procurement through to final account
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate applications for payment, valuations, variations, and compensation events
  • Produce accurate cost reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support project performance monitoring
  • Administer subcontract accounts, including procurement, change management, payment assessment, and final account agreement
  • Review and respond to incoming contractual correspondence and commercial documentation in a timely manner
  • Support the preparation and negotiation of subcontract agreements and commercial terms
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities across the project
  • Work collaboratively with operational, planning, engineering, and project delivery teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved
  • Support change control processes and ensure contractual entitlements are properly managed and recorded
  • Monitor project progress against budgets and ensure accurate forecasting of costs and liabilities
  • Assist senior commercial leadership with client reporting and commercial strategy
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, governance procedures, and quality standards
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior commercial team members where appropriate

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience operating as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in heavy civils, infrastructure, or major construction environments
  • Demonstrable experience managing subcontract accounts and complex commercial packages
  • Excellent understanding of NEC contracts and commercial administration procedures
  • Strong cost reporting, forecasting, and financial management capability
  • Effective negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercially astute with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in managing change, variations, and compensation events
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries
  • Knowledge of nuclear quality standards and project governance procedures
  • Familiarity with large framework environments and alliance-style project delivery
  • Experience working on decommissioning, infrastructure upgrade, or major civils programmes
  • Membership or progression toward RICS, ICES, or CIOB accreditation

Required Project Knowledge

  • Detailed understanding of contract and subcontract administration within major infrastructure environments
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction methodologies and delivery processes
  • Understanding of cost control, risk management, and change management principles
  • Familiarity with regulated project environments and associated compliance standards
  • Ability to interpret technical, contractual, and commercial documentation effectively
