Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an experienced engineering manager with a HVAC bias to be engaged on a permanent basis in Whitehaven, Cumbria. We are currently seeking an experienced Engineering Manager - HVAC to support the delivery of major nuclear decommissioning programmes across West Cumbria. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team delivering technically complex projects within one of the UK's most highly regulated environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading HVAC and nuclear ventilation engineering activities across a portfolio of long-term decommissioning and infrastructure projects.
Working across multidisciplinary delivery teams, you will provide technical leadership, engineering governance and project oversight through all phases of the project lifecycle including design, installation and commissioning.
The Role
As Engineering Manager - HVAC, you will lead the delivery of ventilation and HVAC engineering solutions supporting critical nuclear decommissioning operations. You will ensure engineering activities are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with programme and client requirements. You will act as a senior technical authority within the project team, supporting both engineering delivery and stakeholder engagement across complex nuclear environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HVAC and nuclear ventilation engineering delivery across multiple projects and workstreams.
- Provide technical oversight and engineering assurance for containment and ventilation systems.
- Manage engineering activities through concept, detailed design, construction support and commissioning phases.
- Ensure compliance with safety case requirements, engineering standards and regulatory expectations.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical interfaces.
- Support design reviews, hazard reviews and engineering governance activities.
- Drive quality, safety and delivery performance across engineering outputs.
- Mentor and develop engineers within the HVAC and building services teams.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with project stakeholders and delivery partners.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering HVAC or nuclear ventilation systems within highly regulated industries.
- Previous experience in an engineering management or technical leadership position.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance and safety-led delivery within regulated environments.
- Experience supporting projects through design, installation and commissioning phases.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across complex programmes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Chartered status or working towards chartership is desirable.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within nuclear decommissioning environments.
- Knowledge of nuclear containment philosophy and ventilation system design.
- Familiarity with UK nuclear regulatory frameworks and engineering standards.
- Experience delivering work on large-scale infrastructure or regulated industrial projects.
