Responsibilities
- Fluid Systems Engineering
- Lead the development of fluid systems within Balance of Plant scope.
- Produce and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Develop layout drawings, system schematics and engineering design documentation.
- Carry out component sizing calculations and develop equipment specifications and datasheets.
- Support optioneering studies and technical decision-making processes.
- Produce and review design descriptions, requirement specifications and technical reports.
- Systems Engineering & Integration
- Apply Systems Engineering principles to define functional and design requirements.
- Ensure integration of fluid systems within the wider power plant design.
- Manage and resolve technical interfaces across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Contribute to design development through FEED and detailed design stages.
- Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Act as technical point of contact for system interfaces and stakeholder engagement.
- Support and lead design reviews, HAZID and HAZOP studies.
- Liaise with project safety, environmental and licensing teams on nuclear safety requirements.
- Provide engineering input into procurement specifications and supplier engagement.
- Work with equipment vendors to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
- Project Execution
- Support delivery of engineering activities in line with project scope, schedule and budget.
- Ensure adherence to engineering governance, quality assurance and HSE requirements.
- Contribute to risk identification, mitigation and resolution activities.
- Maintain compliance with relevant engineering standards and codes.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering within nuclear, thermal power, oil & gas or other highly regulated industries.
- Strong background in fluid systems design and Balance of Plant engineering.
- Experience working across FEED, detailed design and EPC project phases.
- Ability to develop and review engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs and system specifications.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing technical interfaces.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Understanding of UK health, safety and nuclear regulatory requirements.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous
- Systems Engineering principles and application.
- Procurement specification development and supplier engagement.
- Thermal power generation systems.
- Nuclear licensing and safety case interfaces.
- HAZOP / HAZID participation.
- ASME, UK and European engineering standards.
- EPC delivery environments.
Qualifications
- Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration is desirable.
- Security Requirements
Due to the nature of the projects, successful applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain
UK Security Check (SC) clearance .
