An engineering organisation within the energy and infrastructure sector is expanding its design capability at its Derby location in response to increased project demand. The organisation is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to support the development of innovative engineering products and solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of new and existing products, requiring strong CAD experience, attention to detail, and a creative, problem‑solving mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Design engineering components and assemblies in line with customer and project requirements
- Produce 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD systems
- Research and develop new product ideas, concepts, and methods
- Improve existing products, designs, and engineering processes
- Modify and optimise designs to meet evolving requirements
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations
- Develop innovative and practical design solutions to engineering challenges
- Support and mentor junior members of the design team
- Present concept and final designs to internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a Senior Design Engineer or similar role
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a mechanical engineering team
- Understanding of relevant safety legislation and standards
- Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles
- Experience using 3D CAD software (e.g. Siemens NX or similar) for modelling and drawing production
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (e.g. Teamcenter or equivalent)
- Relevant engineering qualification (degree or equivalent)
- Security clearance (or ability to obtain clearance)
