The Opportunity

Westlakes Recruit is supporting a major UK nuclear programme with the appointment of experienced

Quality Engineers to join the Nuclear Island Quality function.

This is an exciting opportunity for Quality Engineers to play a key role in the delivery of one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes, supporting the implementation of robust quality arrangements across complex engineering, construction and supply chain activities.

Working within a multidisciplinary project environment, you will provide quality engineering expertise to ensure work scopes are delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly and right first time , with nuclear safety at the forefront of everything you do.

The Role

As a Quality Engineer, you will support the effective implementation of quality requirements across assigned project scopes, working closely with engineering, construction, suppliers, Quality Delivery Managers and wider project teams.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Supporting the implementation of project quality processes and arrangements.
  • Providing quality engineering support across nuclear project delivery activities.
  • Reviewing quality documentation, procedures, inspection and test requirements.
  • Monitoring quality performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Supporting the identification, assessment and mitigation of quality risks.
  • Supporting the investigation and resolution of non-conformances and quality issues.
  • Working with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project quality requirements.
  • Supporting quality assurance, surveillance, inspection and audit activities.
  • Providing quality input into engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning activities.
  • Supporting quality governance and assurance reviews.
  • Ensuring project activities comply with applicable quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on nuclear safety and the delivery of work right first time.
  • Working collaboratively with wider Quality, Engineering, Commercial, Supply Chain and Delivery teams.
  • Providing clear reporting and escalation of quality issues where required.

About You

We are looking for Quality Engineers with experience working within nuclear, engineering, construction or other highly regulated environments. You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience working within a Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance or Quality Management role.
  • Experience within a major project, engineering or construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality management principles.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015.
  • Ideally, knowledge or experience of ISO 19443:2018.
  • Experience working with inspection, testing, quality documentation and non-conformance management.
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers, subcontractors and project delivery teams.
  • A good understanding of risk-based quality management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • The ability to work effectively within a complex, multidisciplinary and matrix project organisation.
  • Nuclear Experience

Experience within the nuclear sector would be highly advantageous, particularly candidates who have worked across:

  • Nuclear new build
  • Nuclear construction
  • Nuclear Island activities
  • Nuclear engineering
  • Nuclear manufacturing
  • Nuclear supply chain
  • Decommissioning
  • Safety-critical engineering environments

Experience with CFSI, supplier quality, audit, surveillance or quality assurance would also be beneficial.

Qualifications

Candidates will ideally hold a degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quality, Engineering or a related discipline. Additional qualifications such as:

  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
  • Quality Management qualifications
  • CQI membership
  • Internal Auditor qualifications
  • Risk Management qualifications would be advantageous.
