Provide technical expertise across the full lifecycle of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems within a highly regulated, safety-critical engineering environment. The role covers delivery of complete UPS system designs, including system architecture, sub-system development, equipment specification, equipment selection, integration, verification, and validation activities. Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will apply a structured systems engineering approach to develop robust and compliant critical power solutions from concept through to final verified design.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate high-level plant and operational requirements into detailed technical specifications for UPS and associated electrical power systems.
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, controls, safety, and electrical engineering disciplines to develop integrated system solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and engineering guidance for UPS system design activities.
- Develop and assess system architectures, equipment specifications, and design substantiation documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable international standards and regulatory requirements, including IEC 63046, IEC 61225, and IAEA SSG-34 guidance.
- Produce verification and validation strategies, including inspection, testing, commissioning, and acceptance plans.
- Support lifecycle engineering activities covering design, procurement, installation, operation, maintenance, and future upgrades.
- Contribute to safety case development and technical interactions with regulators, independent assessors, and external stakeholders.
- Support supplier and contract partner management activities, acting as an intelligent customer where required.
- Provide mentoring and technical support to junior and developing engineers.
Experience & Skills Required
- Strong background in UPS systems, critical power infrastructure, or industrial electrical power systems.
- Experience delivering systems engineering activities within regulated or safety-critical industries.
- Understanding of electrical system integration, power continuity, battery systems, and equipment qualification processes.
- Familiarity with verification, validation, and requirements management methodologies.
- Knowledge of relevant IEC and international engineering standards.
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience supporting safety case or regulatory compliance activities is desirable.
- Previous experience managing suppliers, contractors, or technical work packages would be advantageous.
- Experience within nuclear, defence, aerospace, rail, automotive, oil & gas, or similarly regulated sectors is beneficial.
