Role Overview

Seeking a Principal Engineer - Site Asset Safety Verification to support the authoring, management, and technical review of design substantiation documentation for site assets and infrastructure within a highly regulated, safety‐critical environment. The role focuses on supporting the nuclear safety case through design substantiation, technical assessments, and safety justification activities, while providing leadership across multidisciplinary engineering interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Author and manage design substantiation documentation supporting site asset and infrastructure safety cases.
  • Review and assess engineering analyses, calculations, and technical assessments supporting substantiation activities.
  • Support Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) and ongoing safety case maintenance.
  • Lead delivery of substantiation and verification packages with a high degree of autonomy and technical ownership.
  • Support implementation of design substantiation requirements across engineering projects.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary stakeholders including Safety Case, Human Factors, and Engineering Authority teams.
  • Contribute to safety justification activities across mechanical, civil and structural assets/facilities.
  • Produce high‐quality technical reports, engineering documentation, and substantiation evidence.
  • Support continuous improvement and cross‐functional collaboration in safety and substantiation processes.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience in complex, high‐hazard or highly regulated industries, such as:
  • Nuclear
  • Aerospace
  • Defence
  • Oil & Gas
  • Shipbuilding
  • Weapons/Ordnance Manufacturing
  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline, apprenticeship‐trained, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Strong background in:
    • Nuclear or systems safety
    • Design substantiation
    • Safety case / safety justification
    • Technical assurance and engineering verification
    • Engineering report writing and technical documentation
  • Ability to work autonomously while providing technical leadership across stakeholders.
