We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembly Technician to support the maintenance, assembly, modification, and improvement of complex engineering systems and components. Working alongside experienced Mechanical Technicians and Fitters, the successful candidate will contribute to a wide range of hands‑on engineering activities within a highly technical environment. This role requires a practical individual with strong mechanical assembly skills, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the maintenance, modification, repair, and improvement of mechanical components and systems.
- Assemble and prepare components in accordance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions.
- Carry out mechanical assembly and engineering tasks to a high standard of accuracy and workmanship.
- Follow approved procedures, process documentation, and quality requirements throughout all activities.
- Undertake a broad range of hands‑on engineering and workshop tasks with minimal supervision.
- Support installation, maintenance, and testing activities as required.
- Collaborate with technicians, fitters, and other engineering teams to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, procedures, and records.
- Exercise appropriate care when handling complex, fragile, or high‑value equipment and components.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements at all times.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably required to support operational objectives.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship or hold an equivalent engineering qualification.
- Experience working in a mechanical assembly, manufacturing, maintenance, or engineering environment.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering and assembly drawings.
- Good understanding of quality assurance processes and associated documentation.
- Experience working under Safe Systems of Work, Method Statements, or Permit‑to‑Work procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of vacuum systems, vacuum technology, and good vacuum engineering practices.
- Experience working with cooling systems and associated mechanical equipment.
- Experience within research, scientific, advanced engineering, manufacturing, energy, aerospace, nuclear, or similar technical environments.
- Familiarity with precision assembly techniques and working with complex mechanical equipment.
