Westlakes Recruit is supporting a number of leading organisations delivering some of the UK's most complex and nationally significant nuclear programmes. As project activity continues to grow across the sector, we are looking to connect with talented EC&I professionals at all levels, from Designer through to Principal Engineer, to support the delivery of new build, decommissioning, waste management, plant modification and life-extension projects.
The UK nuclear sector is entering a sustained period of investment and delivery, creating long-term opportunities for Electrical, Control and Instrumentation professionals across both existing facilities and new nuclear developments.
You may be involved in:
- Nuclear new build programmes
- Decommissioning and hazard reduction
- Waste retrieval and waste management
- Plant modifications and upgrades
- Plant life extension
- Electrical distribution and building services
- Instrumentation and control systems
- Design substantiation and technical assurance
- Installation and commissioning support
Opportunities are available across the engineering lifecycle, including concept design, FEED, detailed design, installation, commissioning, operation, modification and decommissioning.
Depending on your experience and level, responsibilities may include:
- Developing EC&I design solutions against client requirements and functional specifications
- Producing and reviewing design packages, drawings, specifications, calculations and assessments
- Producing electrical and instrumentation designs suitable for manufacture and installation
- Supporting plant walkdowns, surveys and configuration confirmation
- Producing or reviewing cable calculations, schedules, routing and containment requirements
- Supporting equipment selection and specification
- Producing AutoCAD drawings and technical documentation
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, CDM requirements and project procedures
- Supporting design reviews, technical meetings and multidisciplinary interfaces
- Supporting installation, testing and commissioning activities
- Delivering work to agreed safety, quality, cost and programme requirements
We are interested in candidates with experience in areas such as: EC&I design, Electrical power distribution, Instrumentation and control systems, Building electrical services, Cable sizing, routing and containment, Control panels and MCCs, Electrical schematics and single-line diagrams, Instrumentation specification, Plant modifications and new build engineering, Nuclear, defence, energy, process or other highly regulated industries. Experience of delivering both electrical and instrumentation designs would be particularly beneficial.
Candidates will typically hold either:
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline with appropriate design delivery experience
- BTEC, HNC, HND or equivalent engineering qualification with significant practical design experience
Relevant experience will be considered alongside formal qualifications.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Trimble ProDesign, AVEVA E&I, IET Wiring Regulations, CDM Regulations, design substantiation, site surveys, commissioning support or major capital projects would be advantageous.
Due to the nature of the work, successful applicants may be required to obtain or maintain appropriate security clearance.
