The Appointed Person is responsible for the safe planning, coordination, and execution of lifting operations on the nuclear site, ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations and preventing accidents through risk assessment and supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Coordination
- Prepare and review lifting plans.
- Ensure lifting operations comply with approved methods and risk assessments.
- Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, supervisors, and other personnel.
- Inspection & Certification
- Verify lifting equipment is inspected and certified.
- Ensure certifications remain valid before work begins.
- Supervision & Execution
- Oversee lifting operations on site.
- Ensure personnel are trained and competent.
- Monitor operations from start to finish.
- Ensure adherence to lifting plans and procedures.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with regulations including: LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998).
- Maintain records of:
- Lifting operations
- Risk assessments
- Method statements
- Equipment inspections
- Lifting plans
- Report and address safety concerns and unsafe practices.
