About The Role
As a Principal Process Engineer you will be responsible for leading the delivery of all Process Engineering requirements across either a single large/complex project or multiple medium sized/complexity projects. You will deliver project requirements individually or as a leader of a team and actively participate in the development of more junior engineers. You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and be located at Westlakes.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the project\’s single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline
- Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the client\’s responsible engineering team
- Responsible for the development of key design deliverables such as Process drawings: Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams
- Checking and approval of calculations including mass, energy and flow balances, pipe and equipment sizing
- Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer-specific standards
- Ensure that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel
- Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented
- Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi- or single-discipline work packages
- Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget
- Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts
Qualifications
- At least 8+ years\’ experience in industry, with at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level. Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector
- Bachelor\’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or associated discipline
- Chartered Member of the IChemE
- Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied including (but not limited to) Pressure Equipment Regulations, COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR etc.
- Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of process design
- Ability to undertake technical tasks and also disclose their technical limitations; willingness to mentor more junior engineers and designers
- Ability to work well with all levels of management, executive leadership and support staff
