We are looking for a technically skilled professional to join our Metallurgical Laboratory as an Analytical Team Leader – Support. This is a development role with a clear pathway to the Metallurgical Laboratory Manager position, offering structured growth in both technical and leadership capabilities. Working with the current Laboratory Manager, you will gain practical experience in laboratory operations, technical leadership, and delivery. Over time, you will lead the metallurgical analysis function. You will help analyze products, components, and finished fuel, ensuring results are accurate, traceable, and support important decisions.
You will work across:
- Metallurgical analysis and investigations
- Laboratory operations and resource planning
- Quality, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Development and validation of analytical methods
- Collaboration with engineering, operations, and external partners
You will be based at the Springfields Fuel Site and will report directly to the Metallurgical Laboratory Manager.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Development
- Build capability across metallurgical techniques and lab operations
- Support team coordination, prioritisation, and performance routines
- Progressively take ownership of people, processes and systems
- Technical Delivery
- Conduct investigations, testing, and failure analysis
- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory work
- Produce clear reports and provide technical guidance
- Laboratory Operations
- Plan and manage workloads to meet business needs
- Use LIMS for data management and reporting
- Collaborate with Production, PDG and Quality teams
- Quality, Compliance & Safety
- Work within UKAS-accredited systems and ensure traceability
- Apply quality control and manage deviations
- Support method development and validation
- Follow safety standards, procedures, and risk assessments
- Investigate issues and improve analytical methods
- Enhance processes and collaborate with stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc in a relevant scientific discipline with 2+ years' experience, or 5–10 years' relevant experience without a degree
- Experience in metallurgical laboratory practices
- Knowledge of regulated environments
- Awareness of industrial and radiological hazards
Main Skills
- Experience with metallurgical techniques
- Knowledge of quality systems, method validation and uncertainty
