We are working on behalf of a well-established children’s residential care provider to recruit an experienced Deputy Manager for one of their homes in SE London. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and motivated leader to play a key role in delivering high-quality, trauma-informed care to children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs.
The Role
As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring high standards of care, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance. You will help create a stable, nurturing environment where young people feel safe, supported and able to thrive. You will also act as the lead in the Manager’s absence and contribute to driving continuous improvement, with a strong focus on achieving Ofsted Good or Outstanding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager with operational leadership of the home
- Lead, mentor and supervise Residential Support Workers and Senior staff
- Promote a positive, trauma-informed culture focused on safety and development
- Ensure compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
- Contribute to Ofsted inspections, audits and action plans
- Maintain high-quality care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans
- Oversee safeguarding and child protection processes
- Coordinate staffing rotas, supervision, appraisals and training
- Support referrals, admissions and transitions for young people
- Maintain effective communication with social workers, families and professionals
- Participate in the on-call rota and respond to emergencies as required
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Willingness to work towards Level 5 (if not already achieved)
- Minimum 3 years experience in children’s residential care
- At least 1 year’s experience in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, trauma-informed care and legislation
- Confident leader with excellent communication and people-management skills
- Flexible and resilient, with the ability to work shifts and on-call
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable:
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (Residential Childcare)
- Experience supporting young people with complex needs
- Experience of Ofsted inspections
- Knowledge of PACE, attachment theory or therapeutic models
- Full UK driving licence
