Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Trust Resident Doctor in Acute Medicine to join our integrated Acute Admissions Unit (AAU), Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) and Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) at Watford General Hospital. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of consultant Acute Physicians, contributing to high‑quality medical decision‑making and the delivery of care within our acute setting. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in acute medical care, with opportunities to participate in ambulatory services and service improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality medical care within AAU, ACU and EAU, ensuring continuity of care for patients.
  • Support and implement medical treatment plans as directed by consultants.
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff, providing training and guidance where needed.
  • Undertake routine medical procedures and oversee patient care in Level 1 areas.
  • Participate in the ambulatory care service, assessing and treating patients who can be safely discharged the same day.
  • Engage in clinical governance, risk management, and audit participation.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Participate in the Trust’s postgraduate education programmes.
  • Perform on‑call duties as required and maintain core working hours 09:00 – 17:00.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

  • Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution.
  • MRCP or equivalent.

Knowledge

  • Documented completed audits during training.
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding clinical research.

Experience

  • Completed Core Medical Training (CMT) and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of management and clinical governance issues.
