Job Overview
Join our dynamic team of paediatric nurses in the Safari Day Unit. This vacancy is for nurses registered on the NMC as paediatric nurses only. The Safari Day Unit provides nursing care and support to children and young people aged 0‑16 years in a children’s environment, located on the 1st floor of the maternity building with a dedicated 10‑bed unit.
Main Duties
- Recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 paediatric nurse on a fixed term/secondment basis with experience and passion in general paediatrics.
- Provide care across specialities in surgery (ENT, dental, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, urology), MRI, food challenges, endocrine tests, and ward attenders for intravenous infusions or blood transfusion.
- Act as a registered children’s nurse, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and promote clinical excellence within the team.
- Support the development of paediatric nurses through continuing professional development including PILS/APLS, venepuncture and cannulation, progressing to Band 6.
- Complete a supernumerary period upon commencement, receive a mentor and practice educator to support professional growth.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Provide skilled, holistic, family‑centred care to children and families.
- Act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
- Sustain senior sister responsibilities, including staff management, acting as team leader, and addressing staff developmental needs through IPR.
- Assume delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Ward/Unit Manager.
- Be flexible to work in any children’s area according to service needs.
