Join Our Radiology Nursing Team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust! Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Registered Nurse looking for your next exciting opportunity? We are seeking a dedicated nurse to join our dynamic Radiology team. In this role, you will work on a rotational basis across all three of our hospital sites, giving you exposure to a wide range of experiences and the opportunity to develop your clinical skills. You will also have the chance to work within our cutting‑edge Radiology Interventional Fluoroscopy Suite at Watford General Hospital, supporting the delivery of high‑quality patient care. This is a part‑time, fixed‑term position, offering flexibility alongside excellent opportunities for learning, growth, and professional development within a supportive and innovative team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering an exceptional patient experience. Applicants should have prior experience in a radiology or surgical setting, be trained in cannulation, and hold an IV administration certificate. Familiarity with the EPR system and CRIS is desirable, alongside a solid understanding of post‑radiological procedure care and emergency protocols. You will assist radiologists with interventional procedures, which require excellent aseptic technique and the ability to wear lead rubber aprons for extended periods (up to 4 hours). Responsibilities will also include recovering patients post‑sedation, managing and rotating equipment and stock, and supervising or mentoring RDAs and students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post‑holder will provide and coordinate specialist Radiology nursing care, offering expert advice and support to staff and ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care. They will work across interventional radiology, fluoroscopy, recovery bays, and the breast clinic (SACH), upholding the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and maintaining public trust in the profession. Responsibilities include managing nursing activities, implementing best practices, and promoting cleanliness within clinical areas. The role requires awareness of budgetary considerations and assisting with monitoring contracts and service agreements. The post‑holder will also assist with patient transport, moving, and handling within the Radiology department, utilizing provided manual handling aids. Wearing radiation protective clothing (0.5mm equivalent) is required when working in radiological areas.

Person specification

Education and qualifications: RGN and/or BSc Adult Nursing or NMC Registration. Additional post‑graduate study. Cannulation Course.
